Redundancy threat as Avana cedes £40m deal

Unions are braced for 80 to 100 redundancies in April at Avana Bakeries in Newport, as it starts to hand over a £40m M&S contract to rival Park Cakes in Oldham. Bakers, Food and Allied Workers Union regional secretary John James told British Baker that the first of the lines are set to move to Oldham in April and that, by August, all of Marks & Spencer's business is due to have transferred.
