South Pole Brits take their own beer

Some staff from the British Antarctic Survey were having a farewell get together in a Southampton pub before setting off to far southern climes. They bemoaned the fact they would have no decent beer to help celebrate Christmas while they drill through the ice into an ancient buried lake called Lake Ellsworth, to search for signs of life in the water and clues to the Earth's past climate. Temperatures there rarely rise above -10°C.
