PET and beer

Back in 2011, Walter Heeb produced a high-scoring submission in the filtration and packaging module for his Heriot Watt MSc. He has updated it for the Brewer & Distiller and we asked Jan-Inge Vernersson at Petainer to supplement it with details of current manufacturing technology. In many markets around the globe, there has been a rise in take-home beer consumption which has driven increases in small-pack volumes for many brewers. With this increase comes the opportunity for innovation in packaging, in particular plastic bottles - but beer is the most oxygen-sensitive food currently being put into such containers.
