Adding a High Barrier Shrink Film to a PET Beer Bottle. -An alternative way to enhance the barrier properties of a PET bottle

EVOH based multi-layered structure, the plasma coating and oxygen scavenging -layered structure are the technologies to improve the barrier properties of a PET bottle. A new method is proposed in this paper to apply barrier shrink film to shrink wrap around the plain PET bottle, up to the bottle closure for improving high barrier properties. Oxygen transmit Rate (OTR) is measured to compare the barrier properties between plain PET bottles and bottles shrink wrapped with PVDC and EVOH incorporated film. The OTR data has shown significant improvement in barrier properties for barrier shrink wrapped PET bottles. The barrier shrink wrapped PET bottle provide the beverage industries such as beer and juice industries an alternative and cost effective solution in addition to barrier PET bottle and heat-set PET bottle.
