Following Trends 12th International Trends in Brewing Symposium, Ghent 2016

Four hundred participants attended over the four days, a record for 'Trends', and with 26 nationalities represented (the majority 53% not being from Belgium) this truly is an international symposium and continues to grow in popularity. Day one started with a welcome address from Guido Aerts, Chair of the Symposium and organiser of his 12th (and last) Trends in Brewing Symposium. Three keynote speeches followed from Charlie Bamforth (Celebrating Diversity), Krishan Maudgal (Diversity Decoded) and Melissa Cole (Better communications in Beer). Following the traditional three minute quick fire poster presentations to the main auditorium, a further set of four keynotes were delivered: Thomas Becker's presentation (Origin and Development of European Beer Styles) was delivered by stand-in Ludwig Narziss, Christian von der Heide (Case Study Africa and Canada), the Brewers Association's Chuck Skypeck (USA Craft - Insights and Analysis) and Boonrawd Brewery, Thailand's Chonlada Manakul (Diversity and Styles: Asia). The day was concluded with an official welcome to Ghent, and opening ceremony, performed by Matthas De Clercq, vice-Mayor of Ghent and Rik Torfs, Rector of KU Leuven.
