THROUGHOUT ITS long history, most of the Association's members were staff brewers working at dozens and dozens of large regional breweries, where they made mostly lagers on an industrial scale. Most of these breweries, however, have since disappeared, either through mergers and acquisitions or through straight bankruptcies, until today just a handful of mega-breweries dominate the world beer market and a plethora of often liny craft breweries make up the majority of breweries in the Americas. At Iasi count, there were almost 6000 of these in the United States alone! With the MBAA's original constituency now gone, BRAUWELT International's roving reporter, Horst Dornbusch, took the opportunity of the MBAA 201 7 National Conference, on October 1 2 to 14, in Atlanta, Georgia, to sit down with John Palmer, the new MBAA Director of Publications, to talk about the mission of the MBAA in this new brewing industry landscape.
