Looking up and down my street here in Berlin this morning, I counted 26 cars parked. Of them 16 were black or shades of grey, four were white, two silver, two red, one brownish red and one dark blue. Sometimes we have a BMW parked here which looks like a Pepsi can in its extra-glossy blue shine, but today I didn't see its sparkle. The yellow Porsche wasn't here today either. To increase my statistical sample for this column, when riding my bike back from work I took note of as many cars as I could without getting myself into dangerous situations. It's bad enough having to dodge the smartphone zombies who cross streets without any regard for their safety, let alone mine. That saddle-based poll confirmed my suspicion from earlier: colourful cars have pretty much disappeared from our streets. (Full disclosure: my Ro80 Wankel NSU from 1976 is very blue - they call it Atlantic Blue Metallic).
