On his 52nd birthday, back in 2004, Mark Klett made himself the subject of one of his Time Studies. He stood in front of his 4x5 view camera for 60 minutes, allowing the exposed film to record one full hour of his life. In this self-portrait, Klett is as grim-faced as any 19th-century ancestor forced to pose endlessly before an antique camera. But the long exposure makes him soft-edged too, a dream-like figure who's traveled through a time, now irretrievably lost.
