Australia now has seven airports deploying the SmartGate system, designed and implemented by Sagem Australasia.rnIn April, the Gold Coast International Airport in Queensland became the latest to deploy the system. The first implementation in the AUS$74.6m programme by the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service was Brisbane, in 2007. Before that the system was trialled by 10,000 travellers passing throughrnSydney and Melbourne between 2002 and 2005. The next in line is Darwin, which may get SmartGate next year.
