The President and Chairman of the China Classification Society (CCS) reflects on the "chill Winter" facing the industry. Increasing economic globalisation has boosted the booming development of global shipping and shipbuilding industries; however, this excessive "boom" will surely lead to a potential crisis. Between 2002 when a new round of shipping recovery started and 2008 when the financial crisis broke out, international marine transport demand was surging every year against the backdrop of rapid international trade growth and global shipping and shipbuilding industries experienced an explosive capacity expansion.
