Dr. Brock, a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Georgia Tech where he once taught thermodynamics, is chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Chattanooga, Tenn.,-based Astec Industries, a company he founded in 1972. There are now 16 Astec companies producing asphalt mixing plants; asphalt pavers; asphalt milling machines; asphalt heat transfer vehicles; soil remediation machinery; aggregate processing equipment; and pipeline and underground utility construction equipment.
