'Coming up to the holiday shutdown period, we have an order book of around 30,000 tonnes, which corresponds to almost 30 percent of our annual capacity. Even by historical standards, this is a high figure,' explains Mats Backman, Production Manager for the Hot Rolled Plate business in Degerfors. 'Our units in Europe and the US are also operating close to or at full capacity,' says Leif Rosen, Business Unit Manager for Hot Rolled Plate. This extremely high inflow of orders can be explained in part by a general boom for the international stainless steel industry as a whole, but also by a number of major successes for Outokumpu HRP in specific market segments. 'Oil and gas and desalination plants for processing water for drinking water are two segments that have shown very favourable growth in recent years, with customers not only interested in our products, but also in our specialist expertise in the respective area,' says Jan Eriksson, Market Strategy Manager for the Business Area.
