The current megane is not long for this world, soon to be quietly euthanised and replaced by a younger, smaller-arsed model. But, in final tribute to its steatopygous hot hatch, Renault has cooked up the Megane R26.R, a flyweight run-out special with a whole bunch of carbon-based stuff - carbon bonnet and seats, polycarbonate windows - and a weight-loss programme based on the 'If it's not securely bolted down, we're having it' philosophy. That means no back seats - you get a full roll cage instead - no fog lamps, no passenger airbag and, because every little counts, no rear wiper. This, er, decluttering means the R26.R saves 123kg over the standard hot Megane. Cool.
