Mid-cap and growth companies have been among the hardest hit by economic volatility in Europe and the US over the past year. For parts of that period, the equity markets have been all but shut to these types of firms. Rich Handler, chairman and chief executive of Jefferies, the winner of this year's award for growth companies, says this had a significant impact on the way the bank went about executing transactions for clients.
