MSCI EMERGING MARKETS INDEX

MSCI launched its emerging-markets index in 1988, covering just ten countries. Now it covers 21 countries, with more on the way, and more than 800 stocks representing 11 per cent of world market capitalisation. The index is calculated in dollars in real time and is updated every minute. Many exchange-traded funds (ETFs) are based on the index and listed on major stock markets round the world. Small-cap coverage was added in 2007 and brings the total number of securities to more than 2,600.
