Probably as many accidents occur during the mooring and anchoring of ships as at any other time in their operations. They are activities that everybody knows about and the associated risks are also widely known. It is amazing that so many things are done incorrectly, but they are. This simple, clear and very well illustrated textbook reminds ship's officers of the right and wrong way to carry out these vital activities. The fact that the author, as well as being a master mariner, spent twelve years as a high school physics teacher has probably contributed to his great ability to explain this quite complex subject so clearly and concisely. This book covers much more than just the principles and practices. The equipment and materials used are also very carefully described. Every cadet should study this book and every officer refer to it.
