Given the lamentable shipbuilding performance of the United States during recent decades it is perhaps hard to imagine how efficient US shipbuilders became during World War Two. Greedy unions, weak managers and pathetic, short-sighted politicians have conspired to destroy a once magnificent industry. While that is regrettable, this very well researched book takes us back to the heyday of American shipbuilding.
