On March 28, 2012, Chinese shipbuilder SinoPacific Shipbuilding Group held a naming ceremony for its first self-designed and built AHTS vessel. Named 'Bahtera Mulia', the "SPA 80 Diesel Electric DPI!" design was delivered to French shipowner Bourbon along with the smaller 'Liberty 254'. The delivery of the 'Bahtera Mulia' from the group's Zhejiang Shipbuilding yard marks SinoPacific's transition from collaborative to independent design. This ends the well-worn process of preliminary designs of past OSVs mostly undertaken by Western or Singaporean companies. SinoPacific can now handle the entire design chain, ranging from the front-end concept design to back-end detailed design and production design, enabling the company to quickly respond with optimal solutions to ensure customer needs are met.
