'Rainbow Akane'

More recently, Kiso Shipbuilding delivered the 'Rainbow Akane', a 95-pax ferry to local owner Noshima Kaiun. With design work commencing in-house in February of 2012, the project was rapidly brought to conclusion with the vessel launched in October of that year. Upon delivery in November, the 'Rainbw Akane' was in active service within a week. Noshima Kaiun is a ferry operator that runs a route between the mainland port of Mitajiri (Yamaguchi, Houfu) and the island of Nojima, transporting both passengers and goods. The design brief for the new vessel called for a fast passenger ferry to provide passage for locals and tourists to and from the island, along with the ability to transport a single vehicle.
