Lighter scale helicopters always fly better, so you need to save weight wherever possible. There are several rules to keep in mind if you want to win the weight battle: 1 Use a digital scale to weigh your mechanics, scale body and anything else that needs to go into the finished project. If the component weight is too high, you need to start shedding weight. It's a good idea to add ballast to your bare mechanics to get an idea of how the finished scale bird will fly. 2 Shop based on weight. The sad truth is that there are some very attractive, but overweight scale bodies on the market. This is particularly true of some lower cost mass-market bodies because lightweight fiberglass work requires extra care and time.
