Cynthia Robinson is the director of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Science & Technology Policy Fellowships. She administers programs for yearly cohorts of more than 160 fellows. Robinson holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from Boston University and a master's degree from Tufts University in urban and environmental policy, concentrating in international environmental policy and sustainable development. For Robinson there is no particular pattern to a day. In her role as senior manager of the S&T Policy Fellowships, her time is spent in various activities including building collaborations with agencies that host AAAS Fellows, overseeing the selection and placement process to match scientists and engineers to assignments, conducting outreach on the fellowships, meeting with Fellows to trouble-shoot challenges, managing budgets and contracts, strategic planning, and coordinating interactions with alumni. "Is it important to maintain relationships with our alumni," she explained, "as they contribute significantly to ongoing activities by serving as orientation speakers and presenters at workshops, helping to recruit candidates, and also in selecting future Fellows by serving as application reviewers and as members of selection committees."
