I have been living and working in Germany for nearly a year and a half as a German Chancellor Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and sadly, my time here is rapidly coming to an end. I am lucky to consider my time here, for reasons personal and professional, a successful and happy one. During the course of my stay, any anxiety I felt while deciding to move across the Atlantic had disappeared. A significant part of the "should I do it or not" debate was that I was making this decision at the age of 34, and that I had a great job. Should I stay on the path I had chosen a number of years earlier, or should I take a jump that would add a degree of uncertainty to my future endeavors-at least in the near term? However, I decided that this fellowship presented a unique opportunity for me-one that I was unlikely to find in the United States.
