Exploring Careers in Biotechnology and Drug Development with ebAWIS

Toby Beth Freedman, Ph.D. (Molecular biology, UNC Chapel Hill) shared with the East Bay chapter of AWIS (ebAWIS) on March 26, 2009 her insights on finding a job in the current economic situation by elaborately using the scientific process. She began by encouraging us to explore our own personal skills, interests, values, and goals as we identify the ideal job. Although there are jobs available for bench scientists, there are many alternatives in related areas such as: sales, marketing, project management, corporate communications, venture capital and banking, and clinical development. Currently, the hot jobs are in regulatory affairs, marketing and sales, clinical development, and biology information technology. There are also positions available in contract research, government, and education.
