Ten years after the demise of the Warsaw Pact, Central Europe is just beginning to establish a foothold within the Western aerospace and defense community, but full integration is still a long way off. Many of the major airlines in the region have scrapped their Russian-built fleets in favor of Western aircraft and struck partnerships or are seeking alliances with other international carriers. And harmonization of air traffic control with the rest of Europe under the auspices of Eu-rocontrol is proceeding apace.
