Thales Plays China Card

Thales is likely to expand its dominance over the Chinese air traffic control market as a result of a joint venture between the French company and an affiliate of China's civil aviation authority. This joint venture, under discussion for two years, creates a company 40%-owned by Thales and 60%-owned by TEDC (Civil Aviation Air Traffic Control Technology Equipment Development Co. Ltd). TEDC was formed in 1998 as a high-technology offshoot of the Air Traffic Management Bureau (ATMB) of the General Administration of Civil Aviation of China (CAAC). The joint venture will develop, sell and maintain air traffic control (ATC) centers based on Thales's technology.
