Italy's Station Modules Set for Final Tests

The Italian Multi-Purpose Logistics Modules for the International Space Station are undergoing final tests in preparation for initial launch to the ISS on two shuttle missions early in 2001. The MPLMs are part of $700 million in Alenia Aerospazio hardware being built for the ISS. Two of the three MPLMs, named Leonardo and Raffaello, have been un-dergoing final integration at the Space Station Processing Facility (SSPF) here for more than a year (see photo 1). The windowed housing between the modules is used to rotate experiment racks.
