摘要

With an end to the latest Boeing 737 operational interruption in sight and 787 deliveries finally accelerating after nearly six months of near stagnation, the U.S. manufacturer is looking beyond its walls at potential threats to its much-needed commercial recovery. The novel coronavirus pandemic remains top of mind, but a new and even less predicable threat is growing: a government-level political dispute that threatens to keep the massive Chinese market closed to new Boeing orders and, for now, the entire 737 MAX program. "We're still awaiting 737 MAX regulatory approval from China, and the timing of it will affect our 737 delivery plan," Boeing Chief Financial Officer Greg Smith acknowledged during the company's 2021 first-quarter earnings call April 28.
