787 Pilot Training Signals Deliveries Soon

Nearly three years after It was supposed to inaugurate the Boeing 787 service era, All Nippon Airways has begun training pilots for the new jet, a sign that Boeing's third-quarter delivery target is holding. The training is under way at Boeing Flight Services's Tokyo facility, which also will train 787 pilots for Japan Airlines. That carrier is expected to begin receiving its first aircraft by early next year. Boeing Flight Services (BFS) begins with computer-based training that pilots can undertake at home with their laptops, and transitions to the Thales Flight Training Device (FTD> before finishing off with a full-motion simulator. The FTD is a static trainer designed to speed up the training process by eliminating the need to run a 3D full-motion simulator. Time in the full simulator is therefore minimized.
