Take one of recent history's more notable failures to adapt to runway conditions: the overrun accident of Southwest Airlines' Flight 1248 at Chicago Midway on the night of December 8, 2005.rnPilots who landed ahead of the SWA 737 reported braking conditions ranging from "Poor" to "Good" that evening; airport management at MDW insisted braking conditions fell into the "Good" range-the information Flight 1248's crew used in its calculations. Later analysis by the NTSB and independent sources reached a different conclusion, rating the runway's braking conditions as "Poor."
