For most pilots, stall training begins early-on the third or fourth dual flight. Obviously, training varies by instructor but the FAA's Practical Test Standards require that the would-be private pilot demonstrate both knowledge of and practical skills to avoid and/or recover from stalls. But does the PTS go far enough? Like everything else in the world of aviation, it represents a compromise between the unattainable ideal and the lowest common denominator of cost versus time versus the student's wallet.
