One of the relatively easy preventive maintenance items a pilot/owner can perform involves lubricating landing gear and other airframe components. Some caveats are in order, of course. For one, be sure to use the specified grease. Specifications for older aircraft may reference a product no longer available, in which case updated data should be available. And, per the FARs, no complicated disassembly of the aircraft is allowed.
