Once you have your IPC scheduled, here are some ideas for preparing yourself to learn from the experience (and make it go more smoothly): Randomly pull two or three approach charts from your book (or download) and brief yourself for the approach. Use airports or procedures that are strange to you. Do the same with the en route chart: Pick two unfamiliar airports at extreme ends of a low-altitude en route chart and plan an IFR flight, closely looking for any hazards along the way. Do this without a computerized flight planner as a means of refreshing your flight planning skills before your IPC experience. Take some time to really study your airplane's Normal and Emergency Procedures checklists. You should be familiar with every one of them before you attempt flying IFR, so checklist review is a good element of preparing for your IPC.
