Newcastle International Airport, which is still referred to by some using its original name of Woolsington, is 5.8 miles (9km) to the north-west of Newcastle-upon-Tyne city centre. It is currently ranked as the eleventh busiest airport in the United Kingdom, handling more than 61,000 flights and 4.3 million passengers in 2012. The airport sees a wide range of traffic including scheduled and charter passenger flights, cargo, general aviation (GA) and military aircraft. One of the more interesting airlines for photographers is Citywing, which uses Dornier 228s, Jetstream 31s and Let L-410s on scheduled services to the Isle of Man.
