Armavia, the national carrier of Armenia has filed for bankruptcy. The carrier confirmed the decision in late March. It had been experiencing financial difficulties for several years and had been providing around 100 flights per week using a mixed fleet of Airbus, Boeing and Bombardier types. Owner Mikhail Baghdasarov put the company up for sale during November 2012 but failed to find a buyer despite rumoured interest from potential investors in Russia, Italy and Australia. In a statement, Armavia said: "[The owner] supported the airline at the expense of his other businesses." Adding that this situation was unsustainable and that "it had decided to stop its flights and start the bankruptcy procedure."
