Romania Opts for 12 Portuguese F-16s

During an official visit to Lisbon on April 16, Romania's Minister of National Defence, Mircea Dusa, met his Portuguese counterpart, Jose Pedro Aguiar-Branco, primarily to discuss the purchase of F-16s from Portugal. Talks between the two also focused on military bilateral relations and ways of furthering them. The ministers reviewed the technical negotiations that have so far taken place on the planned F-16 purchase and agreed to continue talks, but set a deadline of the end of June to finalise a deal. Romania plans to purchase 12 F-16A/B MLU fighters from the Portuguese Air Force to replace its MiG-21 LanceR fleet. Deliveries are expected to start in 2017.
