US Lightning Engine Runs

English Electric Lightning T5 XS422 performed two engine runs at its Stennis International Airport, Mississippi, base on November 6 2013. The Anglo-American Lightning Organisation (AALO) has been pursuing its dream of flying the aircraft for the past 13 years and the engine runs were the aircraft's first in 27 years. The jet's Rolls-Royce Avon 302 turbojets operated perfectly through their 'cold' range, under the control of chief engineer and project leader Phil Wallis. A full reheat test is planned for later this year. An air turbine gearbox requires maintenance before any reheat test is attempted, but the work involved is likely to be minimal.
