The follower has side walls (2) whose inner side (3) is connected with each other by a cross section. An attachment for indirect contact of valve shafts is arranged at a lower side of the cross section. A roller (8) extends between the side walls as a cam thrust surface and runs over a roller bearing (9) to a pivot (10) fastened in recesses of the side walls. A lubricant slot (14) runs out from an upper side of one side wall to an inner side of the side wall in an edge region. The slot runs in an area of a transverse plane of the follower, where the plane coaxially intersects the roller.
