An-124 New Production Latest

After years of deliberations, plans to restart production of the Antonov An-124 appear to be moving ahead. As part of the proposals, the Russian Air Force is seeking an upgraded military variant of the type, said to be dubbed the An-124-200, although also reported as the An-124-300. The air force says it is interested in buying at least 20 of the new aircraft, while civilian outsize cargo operators have made commitments to buy a further 60 between them if production goes ahead. Production could be restarted as part of joint Russian-Ukraine co-operation at the previous An-124 manufacturing site, Aviastar SP's Ulyanovsk aircraft manufacturing plant. Proposals were discussed on December 3, when Russian and Ukraine government and defence industry representatives visited Antonov.
