Final AC-130H Mission

US Air Force Special Operations Command has undertaken its final mission with the AC-130H Spectre Ⅱ gunship. The 27th Special Operations Wing's 16th Special Operations Squadron (SOS) 'Spectre' -based at Cannon Air Force Base, New Mexico - flew its final sortie with the type on January 16, marking the end of USAF AC-130H operations. For the last sortie, the 16th SOS put all eight of its AC-13OHs into the air at the same time. Cannon AFB will be the first base to receive its replacement, the new AC-130J Ghostrider gunship, the first of which is currently undergoing conversion. The USAF envisages eventually acquiring a total of 37 AC-130J Ghostriders to replace a similar number of AC-130H/U/W aircraft that are in service.
