Otto on Show at Oberschleissheim

The Deutsches Museum in Oberschleissheim, near Munich, has added a detailed reproduction of a 1913 Otto B-Type biplane to its display. Eight years in construction, the replica has been designed to take a BMW car engine in place of the original's 100hp Argus Type 4. A first flight is expected in mid-2014. The two-seat pusher biplane design originated from the Gustav Otto factory near Munich. Sixty were built as trainers for the Bavarian Flying Corps, serving before World War One and into its opening stages, and examples of the type were among Oberschleissheim's earliest residents.
