USMC Receives First F-35C

Lockheed Martin has delivered the US Marine Corps' first F-35C Lightning Ⅱ carrier variant. The aircraft, 169031 'NJ-114'(CF-19), was officially handed over on December 22, before being flown to Eglin AFB, Florida, to join the US Navy's Strike Fighter Squadron 101 (VFA-101)'Grim Reapers'. Until now, all previous USMC deliveries had been of the STOVL F-35B variant. The USMC eventually plans to acquire 80 F-35CS. The aircraft was the final F-35 to be accepted by the US Department of Defense in 2014, meeting the annual programme production goal of 36.
