SAAB GRIPEN SWEDISH SENSATION

Just short of four years after Stig Holmström completed the Gripen prototype's 51-minute maiden flight, the first production JAS 39A took to the air on September 10, 1992. Thirty Batch One aircraft were then delivered to the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) between June 8, 1993 and December 13,1996. Meanwhile, the Gripen pilot training centre at the Swedish Air Force's F7 Wing at Såtenäs opened officially on June 9, 1996.
