Italian Navy EH-101s Multi-mission Helicopters

No.1° Gruppo Elicotteri (Helicopter Group) of the Marina Militare Italiana (Italian Navy) is based at Maristaeli Luni near La Spezia. The unit operates a total of 18 Leonardo EH-101s in three versions. Six are in the anti-surface/anti-submarine warfare (ASuW/ASW) configuration, designated SH-101A in Italy. They are fitted with Eliradar APS-784 radar and Honeywell HELRAS dipping sonar and they can be armed with torpedos or Marte anti-ship missiles. Four are airborne early warning (AEW) variants known as EH-101As using a Thales/EADS/Galileo 360° surveillance radar called the European Navy Radar underneath the fuselage. Eight airframes are outfitted as amphibious support helicopters (ASH), which the MMI calls the MH-101A. Unlike the AEW and ASW/ASuW versions the ASH benefits from a folding rear cargo ramp. Four of them have a FLIR and radar configured nose profile.
