NEW AIRPORT FIRE STATION APPROVED FOR FORT SMITH REGIONAL AIRPORT

FORT SMITH, Arkansas (USA) - The Fort Smith Regional Airport plans to break ground on its new fire station this summer. In August 2016, the Fort Smith Regional Airport staff cleared a large hurdle to create a new aircraft fire and rescue station with a nearly $300,000 grant from the FAA. MAHG Architecture of Fort Smith was also approved by the Fort Smith Airport Commission to design the new three-bay fire station that will be in the airport's midfield and house the new fire truck and two older ones. About $37,000 was spent in 2014 by the airport to restore two fire and rescue trucks formerly used by the Air National Guard at the airport. Those two trucks were transferred to the airport through the U.S. Forest Service.
