Much of the focus on digital signage networks has been about numbers of sites, critical mass and what will attract the advertising brands. We have all looked towards the main retailers such as Tesco and Sainsburys as indicators of the state of the industry but tend to ignore what is going on in the a-v market place, where the digital signage industry is doing rather well. Small digital signage systems are being installed in museums, ad agencies, estate agents, convenience stores etc, that don't need the large systems integrators and distributors. Screens of all types, shapes and sizes can now be seen at major public attractions, department stores, large office premises, etc supplying information to the visitor often without an ad to be seen.
