In 2007, Bournemouth University Media School decided to expand and strengthen its existing facilities with a new HD studio, featuring industry-standard equipment. The Media School's aim was not only to provide an authentic experience of the typical workflow found in today's major studios but also to equip students with the latest production skills and techniques required for a successful career in the media industry. The necessary procedures of public procurement and contract agreement - combined with Bournemouth University's overriding need for the facility to be in service for the start of the academic year - meant that the installation was compressed to a brief nine weeks during the summer holidays. Furthermore, the country's first campus-based, fully equipped professional HD studio needed significant financial investment, which also had to be taken into consideration in the proposed installation. The Media School chose the HD solution proposed by Sony's Professional Services team not only because it featured the latest equipment found in many of the UK's leading studios, including at the BBC and BSkyB, but also because it included post-project support.
