HELPING YOU TO FACE THE WORST

Just over a year ago I was rushed to hospital. I felt awful and had lost almost five stone, but put it down to stress. They found a tumour -1 needed immediate chemo and radiotherapy before an operation to remove half my intestines, bladder and prostate. I was getting statutory sick pay and benefits and my partner, Tracey, continued to work part-time, but with less coming in and extra costs with visiting hospital, we struggled with money. It was getting really hard for the family, so, as I worked in the automotive industry for a parts manufacturer, I called BEN. Before I knew it, a support officer told us how BEN could help and arranged a grant. It was such a relief, I broke down. I'd worked all my life, but couldn't believe people wbuld,do this for me. On top of everything, I was days from having my op when the consultant said he also thought I had lung cancer. The relief when tests showed the growths were benign and it could go ahead was immense.
