Two out of three franchised dealers believe the current state of manufacturer relationships and franchise contracts fails to support them in their long-term strategic planning. Many franchise contracts are awarded on a rolling two-year renewal basis, with only a few premium brands, such as BMW and Land Rover, using five-year, fixed-term contracts. Some AM readers believe the investments carmakers require them to make in showrooms, stock and systems cannot be reconciled with the uncertainty their franchise contracts include.
