CA ZEV rule, driver distraction among topics at SAE meeting

The chairman of the California Air Resources Board (CARB) headlines the list of presenters at the 2001 SAE Government/Industry Meeting slated for May 14-16 at Loews L'Enfant Plaza Hotel in Washington, DC. CARB in January revised its low-emission vehicle (LEV) mandate, allowing automakers to put fewer pure electric vehicles on California roads than had been required. Instead, automakers can meet their 2003 ZEV targets by selling, for partial LEV credits, non-electric vehicles that are considered very "clean." In addition to an opening address by CARB Chairman Alan C. Lloyd on May 14, the ZEV regulation will be the topic of a two-hour technical session on May 16.
