GM and Fiat predict big savings from tie-up

General Motors and Fiat expect to be enjoying annual cost savings in the order of $1.2 billion (?1.2 bn) in three years time as a result of their alliance. By 2005, the deal triggered by the shock merger of Daimler-Benz and Chrysler two years ago should be cutting annual overheads of the US and Italian companies by as much as $2 billion.
